Gorgona Cars Debuts Mazda NM Concept, a Custom MX-5 Miata with a Single Seat

While not as crazy as this Nintendo Wii steering wheel in an MX-5, Gorgona Cars’ Mazda NM Concept was designed purely for the track. They took a first-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata and then removed the windshield, covered the passenger side with a metal sheet, and sealed the bottom half of the doors.

What they ended up with was a single-seat roadster that weighs in at just 1,829-pounds, or 240-pounds less than the factory model, while power comes from a four-generation Miata naturally aspirated 2.0L SkyActiv-G engine generating 181 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. However, Gorgona Cars plans to offer an optional power kit that boosts output to 225 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. One caveat: pricing starts at $70,000 USD in Europe, excluding any taxes and the donor car itself.

The project involved Carrozzeria Di Vitale Srl: the company produced the body of the vehicle designed by Gorgona Cars, and took care of the sheet metal and painting. Also worth mentioning is the precious work of excellent Abruzzo companies such as FOL srl as well as Giantymir: they manufactured the bodywork composite superstructures,” said the company.
